We're located in Etowah, Tennessee, northeast of Chattanooga and southeast of Knoxville. The drive to the Smokies is about an hour and a half and worth every minute!! We moved here 4 years ago from the Atlanta area. We sold our farm in Georgia before expecting to, and moved to our 40 acres in July, 2004. My husband still had almost 2 years left before retiring from GM and there was NO house, barn, fence, water or electricity on our property, but being the risk takers that we are, our youngest son (18 at the time) and I, along with 2 cats, 3 dogs and 2 chickens moved on in. He and I lived in a horse trailer for 6 months (July-February)while our house, barn and fencing was completed. No water for 2 months, and no electricity for 3 months. Luckily, there's a wonderful campground about 6 miles from here that had excellent shower facilities. We would schedule our wash day on Thurs., so I could watch ER at the laundromat. Looking back, it's hard to believe that we endured those times, but we often laugh and talk about how much fun they were!! Now, we're settled in our little house and all of our animals are "at home" as well. We have 2 mules, Solomon and Maude, 2 Haflinger wagon horses, Minnie and Dolly, 8 rescue cats, 4 Boxers, Bonnie, Ace, Ritzi and Roxie and a multitude of laying chickens, guineas, peafowl and pygmy goats. This is the life that we've always dreamed of and we're blessed every day with seeing the mountains, enjoying our animals and being retired...sort of. I paint almost every day and I love camping, trail riding, gardening and canning! Our farm is named AWESOME ASS ACRES, after our pride and joy, King Solomon. We've raised him from birth and since he's spotted (from his Appaloosa mom), we've always heard folks describe him as "awesome", so hence the name. Thanks for taking the time to have a glimpse of my life and I hope you'll visit again!
PLEASE LEAVE ANY COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS! I LOVE HEARING FROM FOLKS AND THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS!!
